Anybody experiencing slow autosaves in C14?

Autosave seems to be ridiculously slow in C14, more so than in C13.

I’m even experiencing this in projects with low track count and MIDI only.

Anybody experiencing similar issues?

How “slow” is slow? Low track count and midi should be bloody fast. Is it even slower with a large track count and lots of audio tracks?

Anything else going on other than Cubase in your computer? For PC check Task Manager.

It may help to post your autosave parameters…ie how often?

What is your OS or maybe put it with your signature?

Confirm you are not playing back or recording when testing autosave.

Unlike C13 and prior versions, C14 saves these in a separate folder. I can’t see why that would matter, but just pointing out a change. I didn’t compare C14 to C13 however I have not noticed any significant difference here.

Using Kontakt instruments will dramatically slow down save times.

Certain Kontakt libraries (NI Action Strikes, NI Session Gtr Libraries, Output and Heavyocity libraries, etc) will impact save times more than others.

Are you using any of those?

You’re right - slow save times due to large CPR and backup sizes are down to Kontakt.

This is a big surprise, and a major PITA.

I’m a media composer so I’m heavily reliant on Kontakt libraries.

These save times are totally wrecking my workflow.

Just been running some tests…

As you suggested, it appears that some libraries increase the CPR file size way more than others.

For example:

10 tracks of e-Instruments Desolate Guitar = 941.8MB CPR file

60 tracks of Performance Samples Fluid Shorts Violins = 12.4 mb CPR file.

Two mitigations-

1.) integrate Vienna ensemble pro in decoupled mode into your workflow (best to just run it on the same machine)
2.) disable any kontakt instruments you’re not using. This stops Cubase from querying all the parameters or whatever it’s doing and decreases save times massively.

The latest Kontakt 8 updates should fix this! K8.2.1 (Also 8.2.0)
