Appoggiatura

Please could someone advise a newby (me) how to apply an appoggiatura in Dorico Element 6.1.10? I can add grace notes but the little arrow on the grace note icon doesn’t do anything. I do know my Elements doesn’t allow me to have cue sized notes - I wish it did.

If by appogiatura (vs. grace note) you mean without stroke, you can right-click the grace note icon, and you’ll be able to choose the other one:

Alternatively, you can use the factory shortcut + the Alt/Opt key, it should toggle between the two kinds of grace notes (with/without stroke).

You can also select an existing grace note and change its type in the Properties Panel:

Do you not have this in the Properties panel?

Excellent reply, thanks so much. Learning more each time I use it.

Sadly no. I have been informed before that Elements does not allow cue notes.

Thanks for your instant reply.

Might it be possible that you misunderstood? It’s probably the cue feature that is not included in Elements (as condensation, I guess), but the cue size should be there, where @benwiggy suggests it: the first column of the properties (bottom panel) in Write mode.

According to the manual it does.

(Actually I know it does, since Dorico for iPad does it . But I wished the OP realized it by himself)

Too late to delete my reply, I’m afraid

Your reply does not have to be deleted. You cite the ultimate reference, the manual, and we all should thank you for that!

Simission,
I think this might be a misunderstanding.
Dorico Elements does not come with the “smart dynamic cue” function, meaning, you can’t input smart cues as in the Pro version (cues = hints to other instruments).
In Elements though you can still make notes “cue sized”, as explained by the above answers. This means, you can input cues (hints to other instruments), but you have to do them manually.

Besides that you can input all kind of appoggiaturas and accatiaturas, also in your Elements version.
