I’m using an ARA2 plugin called Synthesizer V. Here is the problem, after that I remove Synth V, it still plays from its own internal/local midi notes even though the ARA2 plugin was removed and there is no longer any mixer channel associated with it.
Background: Synth V is a vocal synthesizer and it has its own local sequencer with midi notes. It outputs vocal singing based on the local midi and text input.
Steps:
Add a vocal Audio Event to a new Track.
Click on the Audio Event and select Synthesizer V from the Extension menu.
Synth V opens up and it lets you to convert the audio from the Audio Event to midi notes and phonemes in its local sequencer… You select a Synth V voice in its sequencer and this will be the audio coming out on this Track’s Mixer Channel.
At this point the audio from Synth V replaces/overrides what was the original Audio Event.
You can now Render In Place to get a new Audio Event and Track and/or Save the local Synth V info as a Synth V file. (I just added this ‘step’ as info, not bug related)
With the rendered audio there is no need to keep Synth V around so I remove it by going to the Extension menu and select No Extension.
However, Synth V still plays its audio.
I remove the Audio Event that I had Synth V applied to. Synth V still play its audio.
I remove the Track and its associated Mixer Channel, Synth V STILL plays its audio.
To clarify: At this point there is no Mixer Channel for Synth V or the Track it was on, but the audio signal is visibel on the master Stereo Out channel meters when it plays.
I mute ALL Mixer Channels except the master Stereo Out, the Synth V audio still plays.
To clarify. Synth V plays the audio when Cubase’s sequencer runs and it reaches the midi notes Synth V had/has in its local sequencer.
Apparently Synth V has become a ghost, I do not see it, there is no track or Mixer Channel for it, but it plays its audio. I see no way to access Synth V or remove it. It is hidden from me but it still plays. The Cubase project is broken and unusable at this point.
REQUESTS:
Please suggest how I can get rid of this ARA2 ghost.
Please report this bug to the developer.
I find it very impossible to use ARA2 mode this way.
Anyone else with this ARA2 issue?
Have you contacted plugin developer with this issue, to me this sounds more like issue on plugin side? I could be wrong, but many of the ARA issues seems to be on plugin side…
Yes I have.
But to me it seems it is a Cubase issue as Cubase allows this ‘ghost’ plugin to remain in the project and send the audio out (via hidden Mixer Channel or directly to Stereo Out?).
For now I just want to know how do I kill/remove it?
That’s is an acceptable short-term workaround until the bug is fixed. I do not want to be forced to rebuild the project each time, or not be able to use Synth V at all…
Make a new track with an Audio Event (any random audio will work)
Apply Synth V ARA to this Event and open Synth V ARA plugin (double click on Audio Event).
Every local midi track that was ‘ghost playing’ in Synth V is now displayed inside its local sequencer, together with the local track that was created in Step 2.
Mute all local Synth V tracks.
Mute the Cubase Track from Step 1.
At least Synth V will be quiet, but Synth V will still ghost in the background playing via ‘a hidden ghost Mixer Channel in Cubase’
Synth V has a bug that stops Cubase from looping (Active Cycle) properly, so it is not ideal.
Hi Michael, Synth V is v 1.11.2 in ARA2 version. Cubase Pro 13.0.50, Windows 10.
Note, with Synth V ARA2, looping (Active Cycle) in Cubase doesn’t work. It may loop once or twice but then it stops. Sometimes it doesn’t loop at all. I have reported the looping issue to Dreamtonics as well. I do not know if this is a Cubase or Synth V issue, or a combination.
Third Synth V issue is the output is very distorted if you play outside of the cycle markers/range. As soon as the playhead moves inside the cycle markers the sound is fine, but if you play before or after the Cycle range it is distorted heavily. Also reported to Dreamtonics.
Fourth issue is ALL synth V output is heavily distorted if using plugins on the channel with larger delay compensation, such as Auto-Tune Pro VST3.
