Are Duplicated files supposed to be 'linked'?

I don’t recall this ever being an issue, but maybe I never had this situation before. Here’s the issue:
I have an audio file selected and I want to duplicate it…so I use ‘Duplicate Track’ and it does it fine. But now, when I select one or the other, both are selected; this is new to me. I usually duplicate files when doing edits to keep the original intact. But now when I select either file, both are selected. I even disable the first track and it still gets selected. But there is more…
When I create midi tracks, I usually create the first, do the routing and then duplicate it as many times as needed. This is ‘before’ I record any midi data. After recording on three or four tracks, I then select one of the tracks…and they all select. I don’t recall this ever happening before. It could be three different tracks, like Kick, Snare and Hat and they all get selected no matter which one I select.
Is there a preference that I may have changed. Anyway, any help is appreciated.

Can you post some screenshots please. Hard to visualize what might be going on based on just a description.

I put them in order. The same happens with midi files; opening one in the editor, opens both. My work around is to show the midi file list on the left side and uncheck the file; that will take it out of the editor; but this never happened before. I have a bunch of shortcuts, but it makes no difference if I use the menus. Thanks Raino.

That looks like you might have somehow created either Shared Copies or Grouped items. Try Selecting an impacted item and checking in Edit>Functions for Shared Copies and just the Edit menu for Grouped items.

I checked the two suggestions. There is no grouping happening. I tried to create a new file from the duplicate (or however they worded it) and it just did it to both and acted the same.
Maybe going to tech support for this one might be the solution. I’ve never had an issue with Cubase Pro, but maybe something’s gone awry. Thanks again for your attention.

Solved it…though I don’t know how it happened or how to repeat it. But I do know how to fix it. If you’re interested:
I made a dupe again and everything was the same. But (finally) I noticed this time that there was an extra icon on the track settings bar; the icon said ‘group’ and it was on both tracks. I clicked it off and it released the two files…but the icon also disappeared and I can’t find that icon again. I went into the Control Settings menus and it’s not in the Hidden functions menu. So, although I have it working correctly, I have no idea how to repeat it or how it happened in the first place. It would nice to know, but so long as I know how to get rid of it, that’s the main thing. Thanks again for your help.
