Are there any features in Cubase 13 Pro that are not in Nuendo 13?

I imagine you guys get this question a lot, but I want to confirm. I know that there was a while there where for example Cubase had VST Transit but Nuendo didn’t. I know VST transit is now gone, but are there any other features in Cubase 13 Pro that are not in Nuendo? Thanks!

Also, I was reading that it looks like now if I crossgrade, I don’t lose my Cubase license. I know it used to be that I’d lose it. Not sure if I’d still need Cubase, but I have projects going back to Cubase 5, and so I might want it just in case.

That’s great-thank you!

None that I’m aware of. As far as I’ve seen Nuendo is a strict superset of Cubase in that everything in Cubase is in Nuendo. Their comparison list (linked int he previous post) doesn’t show anything missing and I’ve not personally found anything.

The one thing I saw on this list is the Black Valve compressor-which honestly I’ve never even used. Funny enough though the list isn’t totally accurate. A reason I am considering Nuendo is because I’m doing more immersive audio because I’m working in a 10.2 room. Cubase Can do 7.1.4 but for some reason that list says Cubase only goes up to 5.1.

They did forget to update that. It used to be the case that Cubase was limited to 5.1, but they changed that with v12 I think.

So ya I can’t say for 100% sure there is nothing, as I haven’t gone through and manually verified everything, but it really does feel like, and is sold as, a superset of Cubase. I haven’t encountered anything that is missing or any cases of “Oh Nuendo isn’t for that, go buy Cubase to do that.”

I am surprised that one never discusses the hidden gems in Nuendo.
The first to come to my mind are the massive Game Sound FX Library, and the superb Pro Sound Effects Library from https://www.prosoundeffects.com/. They are top notch.

The next that comes to my mind is Anymix Pro.
Upscale and Transform any mono stereo to 5.1, 7.1 and if you are ingenious to 7.1.4

Then you have the nifty Post Presets, Post Filter, Bass Manager, Clip Packages and how can Cubase users live without Channel Batch Export, and intelligibility meter

I can go on and on.

FYI Nuendo opens up Cubase projects without any issue.

The automation behaves a bit different in Nuendo than Cubase. Although I’d say that Nuendo is definitely better.

Also for anyone wondering I got an email today from Steinberg and they confirmed we can use cubase and Nuendo in tandem. They no longer replace the cubase license. I believe this has been in place since cubase 12. It’s great because I can use both.

Yep though to note the Cubase license does not upgrade with/come with Nuendo so if you go from Cubase 13 to Nuendo 13 you keep both, but if you then upgrade to Nuendo 14 you don’t get Cubase 14, you are still on Cubase 13. You could upgrade it too, but you’d pay separate for it.

That said, as I mentioned in my last post, you realistically won’t need to use Cubase if you have Nuendo as it really does do everything, and has the same interface, so there’s not a need to “go back” to do anything.

Btw. does anybody notice a difference in cpu performance between the two?

Not that I’m aware of. I never did an extensive test but the quick look at the CPU meter was the same for me when I changed over.

I didn’t knew that you dont lose cubase license anymore, so one question, are you capable of using earlier versions of cubase too? I have C13, but I use c12 for now, but I am interested in Nuendo crossgrade…

Depends on what you mean. So you can’t use anything earlier than 12, because that’s when they switched to the new licensing system so if you don’t have an eLicenser license for the older stuff, it won’t run near as I know.

Likewise if you crossgrade to a Nuendo license, while it doesn’t remove your Cubase license the new license is for Nuendo ONLY. So in your case it sounds like you’d keep your Cubase 13 license, and get a Nuendo 13 license. If you then in the future upgrade to Nuendo 14, your Cubase license is still 13, it doesn’t also upgrade.

You have C13. If you crossgrade to N13, you then have two licenses: C13 and N13. Cubase is not included in the Nuendo license. For example, updating N13 to N14 will not update Cubase, since it is a separate license.
If C12 is the oldest Cubase version you need, you are good to go.

Yes, the comparison definitely contains errors because Black Valve is available in Nuendo as well  (I crossgraded yesterday.)
