ARIA Engine update 1.980!

Regular readers will know that there are problems with the version numbers for ARIA Player (for Garritan libraries), particularly the disparity between Mac and Windows versions.

To sum up: MakeMusic changed the Mac version of ARIA to 2.026, but kept the Win version at 1.959.
Although internally, they both were the same code, the Windows version would flag an error if it loaded a VST saved state from a higher version number, and not load the contents.

The latest version of Plogue’s Sforzando player has an updated ARIA Engine, version 1.980. This engine is used by both ARIA Player, Sforzando and other apps/plug-ins.

This version will still load VST saved states with a high version number!

In short: if you install the latest version of Sforzando, Dorico documents that use ARIA Player VSTs will load successfully between Mac and PC.

If you’re on a Mac, you might also want to “update” to 1.980 (from 2.026!), as it’s a newer code with bug fixes and improvements.

Sforzando can be downloaded from this page:

As always, make sure you have a backup and can revert should anything go wrong.

Well, Sibelius started out on the Acorn Archimedes as “Sibelius 7”, so it’s not like such jumps are entirely new to us, right?

Also reminds me of the time Nintendo released the N64 and had almost all major franchises like Super Mario suddenly named “xy 64” on that platform, which had me wondering back then what they were going to do once a franchise would hit that number by regular counting…
