ArtNet DMX not working

Yes that makes sense, but as I’m the kind of person who’s always changing things I’d like to keep it simple and in one place. Having the tracks recorded into VSTL gives me no visual info of what’s going on during any song. Any subtle changes I might want to make as the show develops will need constant updating. The way things are with VSTL at the moment I’m going to use it for what it’s good at, and let my Universal Audio Apollo do the heavy lifting on EQ and compression, and ShowBuddy handle the DMX. No sign of any strain on the computer at the moment so running another app isn’t an issue. I admit I started out thinking VSTL would run the entire show (the one I’m planning - nowhere near ready yet), but the more these little bugs and limitations show up, the less likely I am to do that. Eventually I’m going to need some video that overlaps songs, and some audio too, and I cannot see a way to do all of that within VSTL - yet!

I have a dummy song where I record scenes and movements for the fixtures at 120bpm from other software, one clip for every scene, renamed. Then copy paste where I need it and it adapts to song bpm

… is it that one, @Dr_Scardo? If so, we’ll get that device and check what’s going wrong.

See you,
michael.

Nothing wrong - I use one, working fine

That’s the one, but others report it works fine

I dont want to be Schlaubi Schlumpf , but ArtNet is ArtNet, absolutely not hw dependent  if working with any, will work with all

@Dr_Scardo asking again: checked UNI#Nr at insp (0 vs 1, etc). Have you reverse monitor signal via bult in DMX monitor (via virtual DMX?)

Saying again - yes! I’ve checked every possible parameter setting connection blah blah that I can find in VSTL, and to repeat - got it working in Showbuddy in minutes.

The missing ArtNet icon in the DMX setup page means nothing at all then? Just one of those weird things (like the lost Midi port routing on re-opening).

When something constantly doesn’t quite work, I look for solutions elsewhere (again!). For the moment I’ve soak-tested à one hour show using Cubase 12, with the DMX as an instrument insert (Showbuddy) and UAD Console scene changes via IAC Midi (which VSTL keeps losing). Click track in C12, using Arrangement chains, plus any specific FX not available in UAD. 2ms latency and rock solid. Ran all day.

I’d re-read my own post about not needing to re-invent the wheel…

Not at all at “novice” level.

is your artnet network set up before starting VL? (Won’t work if VL is running and connecting ArtNet afterwards)

@Spork btw, is there any reason for that above? I mean, VL is broadcasting the signal, its not unicasted. What might be the reason ArtNet not starting to work if node is not avaiable before starting VL?

ArtNet up and running before, after, during, yesterday today tomorrow…, and I’ve tried all permutations (years ago I used Windows so I’m well versed in picky hardware…). To be honest it’s another stumbling block that is just not worth the effort- troubleshooting comes with the territory sometimes with music apps, but when another app does the job immediately one can’t help thinking that this one is just too unfathomable. I’ve had so many “teething problems” with VSTL, I’ve tried to remain positive, and almost got there until the ArtNet problem. I don’t feel like wondering what’s going to trip me up next. I’ve got a working solution with C12 and Showbuddy - the temptation to spend hours solving someone else’s problems has to be resisted. For now I’ll take my ball and leave the field, peacefully. I’ll keep an eye on things from the sidelines.

Hello. I have the same problem! Have you found a solution? can you share?

I think the solution for yours problem is to get all ArtNet connection up before starting VSLT

All connections are configured correctly. Data is being transferred to the node. Checked through The ArtNetominator. But VSTL does not want to send data packets. More precisely, it sends only 1 frame when the song starts and stops.

ArtNet universe is correct?
Did you draw a dmx clip with events? Or expect the mixer to send data?

The universe is true.
clip created
Control should come indirectly from the DMX track of the program. The task is to automate the operation of godox TL60 via DMX track. But data is not sent to the artnet node from VSTL

Ok! Seems these are correct. Can you try

Look/screenshot with VL’s internal DMX monitor?
Also maybe try
universe 1 on VSTL (in case the ArtNet node is on Universe1)?

Move fader in DMX MIXER

Play song + stop song

It looks like you have two active network interfaces - try disabling one of them.

did. Nothing changes

Just did a quick check with 3.0.23 on windows 11 with latest patches and it works fine here.

Maybe the ip address of your artnet device or its universe(s) is set incorrectly.

Happy to remote diag with you if you think it will help.

E mail alert to this watched thread - this problem still exists? Wow, to @Treble_Clef - yes, I found a solution, I stopped trying to trouble shoot a program with moving goal posts. Every now and then I come back here to see if the world of VSTL is sparkling yet, and was almost tempted to download the demo of the new version - but nope, a visit to these threads doesn’t give me hope. I didn’t want to waste a whole lot of time re-configuring a show with VSTL when the setup I have does everything I need. I remember the head scratching I did with VSTL.
