ARX4-T with Asus Motherboard Prime Z790-A and Thunderboltex 4 card

Hello guys,

I have a problem that the AXR4-T is not recognized. Could you recommend me which Thunderbolt card could be suitable for the Z790 chipset?

operating system
Windows 11 Pro

Or maybe you have an idea whether it could work with the Asus Thunderboltex4?

Greetings Michael

Hi Michael,

All I can tell you is that my Windows 10 works with a ASUS Thunderbolt EX 3 coupled with an ASUS Z270A motherboard. I have to use a Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 adapter adapter though.

Good luck.

Hello Dreamcad,

Unfortunately, your system running on one of the latest gen chipsets which supports Intel’s newest CPU generations is not compatible with old Thunderbolt 2 devices anymore. The AXR4T is one of them I am afraid.

As you can read on this page, accessories built to Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 specifications are not supported by Thunderbolt 4 PCs. Only accessories built to the Thunderbolt 3 specification are fully supported by Thunderbolt 4 PCs.

This cannot be solved by extension cards either.

That isn’t true. I have a desktop with thunderbolt 4 and a surface pro 9 with thunderbolt 4 and both work with Apple adapters.

Could you say which apple adapter product you’re referring to?

I got it running reasonably well by installing a Thunderbolt 3ex card.

The only annoying thing is that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.
It’s no fun.

sometimes I often have to reinstall the AXR driver, then I get error code 43 in Windows.

Are there specific bios settings for the Asus Thunderbolt 3 es card?

Apple thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 adapter. About the only one available I think.
