Attach Playing Techniques to Whole Rests?

That’s the Dover reprint of the 1914 Ricordi edition.

I’m not sure it does the Violins any favours to think that the pause is on the downbeat, does it?
I’d conduct: orchestra off, Violetta hold the 3rd eighth, then restart tempo on beat 2. But that’s just me. :person_shrugging:

Ah, I see. I wonder if the Ricordi has the fermatas like that also.

For the violins it’s not on the downbeat, is it? I think that’s the point of the fermate on different rhythmic positions. I might be wrong though, and I understand it is not conventional, so why keep the fermate as is, if it can be simplified while maintaining the musical intent? I’ll think it through. For consistency I’d need to go through all the other arias I am working on and look for similar simplifications.

I agree, I’d cue them off a tempo, give Violetta time and give the upbeat for the pickup to continue.

Works now, to recreate your result I nudged the end a 16th to the left. Good to know. Thank you!

Actually rechecking it, I see the second time around the fermata is placed as you’d expect. I’ll correct it the first time. Thank you!
