Attach Playing Techniques to Whole Rests?

I am inputting a series of fermate as Playing Techniques because I need them in different rhythmic positions.

There is one player that does not play at all at that moment, so they get a whole rest fermata. However, since the fermate are Playing Techniques, the glyph is attaching to beat one, and not the rest itself. Is there any way to make it attach to the rest? (Other than manually placing it in Engrave mode).

TIA

As far as Ik can see, you can put a playing technique on any rhythmic position you want, just place the cursor there.

This definitely reduces the amount of distance I need to move the glyph in Engrave mode, but it is not attaching to the rest, really.

Just to make sure you’re not doing needless work, if you put a fermata on, say, beat 1, it will still show above a whole rest.

Another possibility might be to make a line that has the fermata symbol in the middle. Make the line with no line (!), using a dashed line with no dash. (Don’t just set the line width to zero, as this will still show.)

Here’s an example of Ben’s suggestion.

One could also try breaking the cursor grid into smaller segments, although I have to say I would likely adopt Ben’s solution if I wanted the exact center of the measure.

Thank you! Here’s the full context of why I need this:

The line suggestion works great, thanks!

Thank you! For some reason the line is not centering in the bar next to this, but no biggie, I can adjust in Engrave mode. The majority of the glyphs are centered now, thanks!

For this case, it looks like if you add a (real) fermata on one of the quarter rests on the second beat, they all will be placed exactly where you want.

You can just put the fermata on beat 2, and it will automatically be centred on the half note, and on the whole rest.

No need for workarounds with lines that I can see.

Did you attach the lines to the barlines as in one of my pictures?

Jesper

Poor example on my end! You are right.

This project of mine is full of these moments, here’s another one:

I did. The line for the bottom staff did center weirdly.

Maybe take the one at the top staff, and Edit→Paste Special→Duplicate to Staff Below.

Jesper

I typed it in the bottom staff (where it does align), and duplicated it to staff above, no luck though:

Strange, works here.

Would Violetta sing it differently if it was on the 2nd note in the tie?

Is this the Verdi? Does Ricordi place them differently?

It’s the one before that’s messing it up. Don’t know why.

Jesper

Probably not.

The fermate are Ricordi’s. I don’t have a plate number, but the edition did not strike me as a reprint (maybe it is?)

I managed by shortening and moving them a little, I think.
