Attributions Below Score

I have what might be a really silly question. :slight_smile: (I did search before posting, however.)

I currently have a Dorico template that’s pretty straightforward – on an 11"-high sheet of paper with a 0.5" top and bottom margin, it has: title (0.5"), score (9.25"), and attribution/copyright (0.25").

Here’s what I’m trying to figure out: Right now, my attribution components are pegged to the bottom of the page. That’s fine and reasonable, but what I really want is for them to be pegged just below the end of the score. So, if the blue score box can take up the 9.25", but there’s only two systems, and it only takes up half that space, the attribution text would go just below the score, in the middle(-ish) of the page, rather than the bottom. (And then I could add a graphic slice that included these items, without the needless whitespace.)

Is that possible in Dorico? I can’t seem to find it.

Text in a text frame is related to the page - not the staff.

If you want text to move in relation to the staff then you need to add it in Write mode at an appropriate rhythmic position. This isn’t ideal for Copyright text etc. though. Sorry!

You could manually move the music and text frames on that final page; or change the Note Spacing for the piece to ensure that it finishes at the bottom of the page.

@lukesneeringer
Can you show us an image of the “problematic page” in Engrave mode so we can see what you have set up at present? You might even annotate it in Paint, if you like, to show us where you would like to see changes.

@DanielMuzMurray Ah well. Thanks!

@benwiggy That’s what I’m doing now. I just wanted to find out if there happened to be an easier way.

@Derrek I can, but it sounds like what I’m asking isn’t how the software is currently designed, and that’s fine.

We’ll never know if you don’t show us.

I think it’s just a matter of wanting text that you’d expect in the footer (or after the music) to be fluid and always be a certain distance from the final stave.

I think Sibelius does this if I’m not mistaken? i.e. if you drag the stave then the text goes with it?

Yes, in Sibelius text is attached to a rhythmic position and may be placed relative to the staff, the system, or the page margins. As such, for example, a header or footnote appearing at the margin may move to another page along with the bar it’s attached to. This behavior drew criticism from users who wanted text attached to a certain page, as in Finale – i.e. regardless of how the music flows around it. I find it hard to imagine the latter use case in a music score.

For the OP, I would just attach staff text to the last bar, flip it below, position it in engrave mode, and shorten the frame on the last page if necessary so the text fits nicely.
