Audio event clipping before reaching its end

Cubase 13 (latest) / macOS (latest)

I have noticed that a few select audio events on my project have the audio clipped before reaching the end of the event. A few details:

– the audio event has a solid waveform until the very end, but as the playhead moves the sound is interrupted a few ms before reaching the end (approx. red line on figure)

– no fades are present, and I specifically cleared them be “Removing all fades”

– the exact same audio event will play to the end when located in the Pool and when I hit the play button in the Pool

– the audio event will play entirely if I use the ‘Play’ tool (9) and click and hold until it reaches the end

This odd behavior is only present in a few audio events of my project, and occurs no matter where I position it on the timeline, if I slip the audio, if I cut and then resize.

Any ideas what can be causing this?

No idea, I admit…

But what I would try is to apply an Audio > Direct Offline Processing > Normalize (peak) treatment, say, at -2 dB and see (or rather listen to…) the result, as it’s a non-destructive one.
