Audio export to mp3

When I export in order to obtain an mp3 file of my project I use Audio Export and check “MPEG 1 Layer 3 File”. However, from that I get two separate files in my project audio folder - one titled mp3 and one titled mp3-01. Only the mp3-01 is added to the track list.

These files are very different in size, i.e. in the case of the one I have just done : mp3 is 12MB and the info says it is a mp3 file, whereas the mp3-01 is 159MB and is labelled a WAV file. Obviously the one I want (for Soundcloud) is the mp3.

But why are two files produced in the export process?

Because Cubase does not read MP3 files directly.

So do you mean it creates an additional file (the mp3-01) just to import back into the track list?

So that file is not for use anywhere else and that the one I need is only the 12MB mp3 file?

Yes, that’s correct. If you untic the boxes that says ‘Pool’ and ‘Audio Track’ in the Export Audio Mixdown window, Cubase won’t import the exported file, and no wav file will be created.

Interesting, because I never knew about that created wav file, many thanks.
