Trying to share tracks for comping. When importing audio files created in a different Cubase machine, they do not line up on the grid at the right location, rather all left justified. Our main objective was to not have to export the entire project file because of size. But am I wrong in assuming that without the original project file they won’t line up in a separate file created on my machine?
Are you perhaps referring to the import of Track Archives when you mention “importing audio files”?
No, these are just audio files that were exported from another individual’s project file.
Specifically, I was wanting to edit/comp specific instruments as opposed to the whole song. Individual instrument audio files were exported and shared in a cloud storage where I downloaded onto my PC.
When I import them into a new project, the aren’t landing on the right spots in the grid. So apparently, whatever gets tagged in the file that tells it where to land only works if you have the original project file. Import at Absolute Position or relative position aren’t even options when importing.
A simple audio file contains no information about the starting point in an audio track. In the Project window, an event referencing the audio file is inserted into the selected track at the project cursor position.
If, instead, tracks are exported and imported from a Track Archive, the starting point is restored.
Select them and Edit/Move/Events to origin after import.
Import to origin is a pool option rather than an import option.
Note they must be bwavs to have the correct metadata to position them.
