I’m looking for guidance on an ASIO problem. Here in the issue, I’ve got a fairly big orchestral template (about 35 tracks) that I’m running in Cubase 6 on a Mac running OSX 10.6.8. My Mac Pro has plenty of horse power to for the job (8 Core 2.66 Ghz with 24 GB of RAM). Plus I run most of my VSTs from a custom PC running Vienna Ensemble Pro. My Mac reads 17GB free RAM when my template is loaded. My problem is my ASIO meter in Cubase is going nuts and I’m getting pops in my audio even with the buffer set to 512. I use an M-Audio FastTrack Pro as my audio interface.
Is it time to upgrade the interface? Any suggestions on what I can do to improve the ASIO performance?
Quick Summary.

First, if you have changed your driver midway through a project, please set Cubase to your original driver.
This often causes clicks and delays during playback.
Confirm that you are using the driver recommended by your hardware manufacturer. Otherwise use the ASIO4ALL driver, which is free at > http://www.asio4all.com> . Set it up by navigating to Devices>Device Setup>VST Audio System. At the top you can choose your driver.
You should also raise the latency slider to 2048 samples in your driver’s control panel and see if that helps.
