Audio Interface for Performer in Multi-Track recording with VST connect Pro

Hi,

I’d like to test (as engineer) a multi-track recording session. Performers will perform in the same room with multiple mics ( 6 mics are needed). What audio interface do you guys recommend at the artist/performers end? I suppose the cheapest option would be an (digital, not sure) mixer with USB audio outputs. Any recommendations?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you need to record all 6 mics as separate tracks ? (you mention a ‘mixer’)
Are your performers on mac or pc ?
Any interface with 6 inputs should be ok - I always recommend RME but the are not necessarily the cheapest.
Do you need 6 mic (XLR?) inputs - do you need phantom power ?

Good question, sorry I needed to mention it in my OP.

> Yes.

> Yes, 6 input would be OK. I think RME is over their budget. around 1000 dollars.

“> no need for phantom power”.

Impossible for me to know exactly what tech you need - but if you need 6 mic inputs something like:

if you don’t need 6 mic preamps then something cheaper will work.

Make sure you test it before you “go live” - the multitrack aspect might not work quite like you expect. You get a stereo feed back from the performer end - which you can premix. It becomes ‘multitrack’ via an offline process…try it and see
