I recently bought a new Mac Studio. I downloaded Cubase Pro 11 and installed the lastest RME Fireface UFX driver for my audio interface and completed the update. I use Ableton Live 11 suite and Cubase 11 pro as DAW either.
My Mac Studio recognized RME Audio Interface very well. So I can see all Youtube videos and Ableton also recognized RME so i can work .
But Cubase recognized RME but there is no sound even when VST is loaded, Of course, the output gain volume is turned up on the mixer.
There is no midi input and no sound when taking midi notes with the mouse. Even if I import an audio file and play it, there is no sound.
Hi @Jinsoo_Ko
What did you configure under:
Studio > Studio Setup > Audio System > ASIO Driver
And:
Studio > Audio Connections > Outputs
Screenshots would be helpful.
I’m having the exact same issue here: Mac Mini 2018, Monterey, Cubase 11, RME Babyface Pro FS. Just switched from a Motu M4 where everything worked fine. The RME ist behaving normal in any other application, tested in Studio One, Superior Drummer and Live Professor. Driver- and Input-/Output-Settings in Cubase are correct. Tested with old songs (that worked with the M4) and new projects.
The meters in the mixer stay absolulety dead, so looks like a problem within Cubase and not with the routing.
Another finding: when changing the buffer sizes for the Babyface Cubase doesn’t update the calculated latency. I have to close and reopen Cubase to see changes here.
Thanks for any help or hint!
Hi @legobeats
Did you install the latest driver and firmware for your audio interface?
Important notes on installation
Firmware version for DriverKit
Attention: Fireface UFX / UCX / UC / 802 and Babyface require a firmware update to versions UFX: 361, UCX: 49, UC: 127, 802 : 17 (111), Babyface: 226 to enable the use of this DriverKit driver.
Link to firmware update tool:

While the firmware update tool would run on M1/2 machines, it needs a working driver. But the driver is not loaded if the firmware is not updated. So the interface firmware must be updated first, using a computer that runs the Kernel Extension driver, or a Windows computer.Driver Installation – updated information
During driver installation, the user must enter his password 3 (!) times:
Permission for the installer to use the Finder for the installation (click Ok, enter password)
Permission to install a system extension (click Continue, enter password)
Permission to unblock the RME system extension. Important: do not click OK, but click “Open System Settings”, then allow the RME Extension in there (and enter password again).
Now reboot!
Basic installation instructions are at the end of this file.
Yes, driver is 4.08 and firmware 205.
finally i fixed it!! You know, I was in really deep trouble. Should I sell RME, or should I move on to Logic Pro X this time, or should I sell my MacStudio recently bought with a lot of loss and upgrade the Windows desktop. And finally, I re-installed “driver_usb_mac_328b2”, which I installed as soon as I bought the Mac Studio M1, at the first time. I had updated the firmware(driver_usbdk_mac_4082) after setting the VST, but I think something went wrong because of this. In conclusion, I just installed the driver and it worked again.
Awesome!
Yes, there seems to be inherent complexity with these interfaces and M1/M2 systems:
While the firmware update tool would run on M1/2 machines, it needs a working driver. But the driver is not loaded if the firmware is not updated. So the interface firmware must be updated first, using a computer that runs the Kernel Extension driver, or a Windows computer.
OK, this ist interesting. Indeed after installing the older drivers 3.28B it works. Looks like Cubase (and only Cubase) has some issues with the latest RME drivers. I’m on Intel btw and firmware update worked flawless.
@Jinsoo_Ko Many thanks for your feedback!
Kernel Extension drivers (here 3.28B) work very well under macOS Ventura. Drivers based on DriverKit (here 4.0x), on the other hand, run very unreliably, especially with high memory utilisation. Apple has probably improved macOS Sonoma, because DriverKit drivers seem to run without problems in the beta versions.
Hey Fellas~ It’s me
Today, I’m gonna say very bad news.
It doesn’t work again since then. The only thing that changed is that I turned MacStudio off and back on the next day. I was very sad. I bought Logic Pro X and tested it. It worked very well. Every DAWs recognized very very well except for Cubase. It’s time to say goodbye to Cubase. I will also purchase an audio interface suitable for future Macs for testing purposes ASAP. But lately I’ve spent a lot of money. And I know that it will probably be recognized if I change the audio interface. But I can’t trust Cubase’s stability.
