I´m working with a PC W11 64bit, i9-12900 processor, 32GB RAM, USB 3.0.
Connecting my UR22C to the USB there is crackling, pulsing noise to hear in my speakers.
I disconnected all other USB-devices, the Gigabite-LAN but the noisy output remains. The firmware of the UR22C is uptodate, as well all the drivers of the PC, Cubase Pro 14 is also uptodate but the noisy output remains. I deactivated all other audio-drivers of the PC but the noisy output remains.
Does anyone have further advices to solve this issue?
Hi,
can you provide more details and context, please? Is it happening as soon as you’ve started Cubase? Do you need to record arm and monitor first?
I’m sure, you have tried other USB ports, right?
Does it also happen with another audiointerface just to narrow down potential suspects?
Does it also happen with the output level turned all the way down?
My two top tips are to check what you’ve got on the input side of the UR22 for noise generation, and also if you are using PSU wall plug vs USB for powering the UR22, try a different socket (different location from where the PC is powering from), or a different PSU. For persistent noises (hums, not crackles), I have also solved using an iSilencer+ USB inline device.
If you power it only from the USB of your PC, not from the PSU wallplug, and the noise disappears, you have found your culprit.. Also unplug eveything from inputs to check that.
Separate socket itself might not be enough to isolate a shared power-circuit hum (iSilencer did the trick for me though on that front).
I have never heard of the iSilencer - does it interfere with the quality of your overall signal?
I once tried a device which got rid of unwanted noise but reduced the dynamics and the overall presence of the signal at the same time. To a degree that I decied to return it.
As far as I understand the iSilencer works differently by design; I can’t recall the name of the device which I tried.
I have been using the iSilencer+ inline with my UR44C for some time now and I haven’t noticed any audio impact or latency. It claims to use a noise-cancelling approach similar to that used in headphones (inverting the offending frequency). Another Cubase user (who I don’t see on the forums) recommended it to me, and they claimed to always have a spare one in their studio in case of rogue visiting equipment.
I still get hums from various USB keyboards when switched on and plugged in to the same mini-hub (Akai MPK Mini is a bad offender, but so is the Roli Rise2), but I can live with those for a short while during each session (I am rarely recording audio and keyboards at the same time). I might work harder to eliminate those hums soon though!
Picture shows the iSilencer+ USB ‘dongle’ inline at the very bottom, that’s the UR44C plugged into it (for audio only, I have the UR44C itself powered by a wall plug), and the (non powered) USB mini hub (with iSilencer/UR44C, Faderport, and various keyboards attached) then goes direct into a USB-C port on my Macbook.
