I wouldn’t mind having a “riding” function to even out levels without constantly having to draw in automation (especially for vocals and bass, in my case).
The new PSP Levelizer looks great! Why not integrate something like it into the next version of Cubase?

there nothing “native” in Cubase for this. However many plugins that does the job. Waves vocal rider works well, but my favorite leveller is from Noiseworx, but it is pricey. there is a new tool that seems very promising for more straight gain staging:
Clip gain is your friend.

There actually is a way to do it in Cubase. Use a modulator configured as an envelope follower patched to the gain setting in the Steinberg stock Volume plugin. You’ll get automated fader-riding. I almost always put this first in the chain.
I had the waves vocal rider. Does the job, but I kept having to kill the waves local server running in the background after using the plugin. Even when plugins are scanned it boots up. Too much hassle for a few plugins so I got rid of waves altogether.
I’ll have to look into that. Seems like that would work.
This is the kind of AI assisted machine learning automation that I would be very welcoming of in Cubase.

IMO all automatic gain riding plugins can not compete with manual clip gaining. I bought Waves Vocal Rider many years ago and I’ve never used it.
The new clip gain features in Cubase have considerably improved the workflow and speed. Personally, I’d rather go with quick manual adjustments and use a series of two or more compressors afterwards on non-essential tracks. But that’s just me.
There’s a Youtube tutorial about using the envelope modulator with a volume plugin like
@A.D.STUDIO suggested. I guess it’s an interesting in-house option for automatic gain riding. Can’t find it right now but it’s out there.
