Hi, I have been reading the manual and checking out tutorial videos on the subject of audio signal path. I am trying to learn the audio signal path into and out of WaveLab Pro 12. Is there a chart that shows audio signal path options using WaveLab Pro 12 with different audio interfaces and basic outboard gear? My goal is to have my un-mastered songs in WaveLab Pro 12 sent out of my Apollo (Ch 1-2) and then back in the Apollo (Ch 1-2) through my unison preamp, and recorded in WaveLab Pro 12 where I finish my mastering processing. Ideally I would like master in WaveLab Pro 12, then sent out for processing, then recorded back into WaveLab Pro 12. I can set my channel ins/out in the settings, but I am note sure in what order the audio is actually going through WaveLab Pro 12, which processing first, and how to verify that my printed/recorded mastered version is actually through the correct audio signal path. Any hep in very much appreciated.
I have read this but it appears to not advise where or what order to send audio out and back in? archive.steinberg.help/wavelab_pro/v12/en/wavelab/topics/master_section/master_section_signal_path_c.html

I like to keep output path 1-2 set up for monitoring only. I think WaveLab was designed with this in mind from day one.
I have a few D/A options to feed my analog chain so I set it up so that the unmastered files sit on a Reference Track which can easily be routed to outputs 3-4 and then simultaneously to 5-6 and 7-8 if you happen to have multiple D/A options to choose on your mastering console.
You can put plugins on each file/clip before the audio goes to your analog chain if you want to.
Then, I record back in on a normal WaveLab Montage track using inputs 1-2, but you can also use inputs 3-4, 5-6, and beyond if you have multiple A/D options like I do. You choose the desired input on the record track in the header area.
You can also monitor through a Reference Limiter in the Montage Output without committing to it before rendering your final master files once everything is captured back to digital, properly trimmed up, dialed in, etc.
It takes some time to configure it all in the WaveLab Audio Connections and in my limited experience with UA Apollo, the UA Mixer adds another layer of unnecessary complexity compared to my RME Total Mix app.
Some people use the External FX plugin to send and return from their analog chain but I find that to be too limited in features and performance.

Thank you very much. This helps a lot. I will do a couple test master sessions with all ITB to get the flow of things, then try using outboard gear. The confusing part was wondering the order of processing: WLP 12 processing vs outboard. Thank you!
If Steinberg makes or could make a WaveLab Pro 12 signal path flow chart diagram, but includes outboard gear, that would be awesome: sound on sound has an article that shows something similar for cubase. /techniques/cubase-signal-routing
Thank you, I was watching this video. I need to watch a few more times.
