AudioGridder not finding server computer

Hi -
I’ve got an old c.2014 DAW computer that I’ve connected with an ethernet cable to a Surface Pro 6 which I’d like to use as the AudioGridder server computer. I’m a newbie to connections, but I’m able to ping in each direction which I think means the connection between the two is working.

The problem I have is when I open AudioGridder as an insert in my DAW computer it says there is no connection. I even tried to manually type into the AudioGridder panel the name of the server Surface Pro 6 but no luck.

Any advice please on how to make AudioGridder in the DAW computer see the Surface Pro 6 server computer?

W10 Pro all around.

Thanks!

Maybe try using a crossover cable.
I guess you’ll still need to set up a network between them in Windows… Isn’t there any guides for getting it working?

I’m thinking out loud here since I’ve never set up AudioGridder myself. But I do believe crossover cables are largely a thing of the past. Plus OP states they’re able to ping the connected device.

@alexis Are you using an Ethernet switch or just a direct connection between the two devices?

Thanks Grim.

I ordered one, but … doesn’t the fact I can bidirectionally ping mean all the necessary signal communication is there already? Maybe not, I’m over my head!

Possibly so … I’ve looked and looked online and done everything I’ve seen to do, though. Maybe I’ve already set up a network? I’m clueless enough about this that is possible.

The program AutoGridder itself is freeware and doesn’t come with a whole lot of cabling instructions (and the YouTubers describing the program start with the assumption the listeners know how to make an ethernet connection that works).

Yeah sorry…probably misled you there, saw ten year old computer and thought maybe that could be it but it’s probably nearer 20 years since auto-sensing became common!

Hi, thanks, @mlib - just a direct connection between the two devices, thank you for your trying to help me work through this!

Got it working, the connection between the daw computer and the server computer. This was a nightmare, a billion links gone through, and with random things in the end that were keeping the ethernet connection from being made (pertaining to W10; it turned out both computers had to be in airplane mode for the network across the ethernet cable to work, who knew).

Here’s a typical guide I found online for anyone who comes later, it’s not bad, it was missing a bit or two I found on other sites, sorry I can’t remember which those were, but hopefully this one here saves someone down the line some time: How to Share Files between Two Computers Using LAN Cable - TechWiser.

Some early comments on AudioGridder use:
I’m having some size issues, the GUI on the daw computer is ginormous, I figured how to turn it off so I could just use the server computer GUI. That one was so small though, I had to change my server screen resolution to increase it’s size to something more reasonable.

Actually manipulating the plugin GUI on the server computer seemed to be off somehow, a little choppy, much more than the 70 or 90 msec latency that AudioGridder reported, but I said I’ll work on that tomorrow.
