Every time I start Cubase (Windows) it automatically creates a Steinberg Folder directly under “Documents” (with subfolders for Cubase, FX Chain Presets and Strip Presets). I would like to move these to a different location and not have Cubase automatically recreate these folders directly under “Documents”. I can’t find a setting for this in Preferences. Is there a way to do this?
I’m not sure why you would want to move this folder.
My folder (C:\Users\Dave\Documents\Steinberg) only contains 51 files / 63 folders / 8MB. So it’s not taking up much room.
I don’t know of setting for this. As you say it doesn’t appear to be in Preferences.
If you want to move the big files (e.g. to another drive) then use the Steinberg Library Manager app.
If you really want to move the Documents folder, then you can do this using Windows explorer - Doc properties - Location:
Ok thanks. It’s just for my personal way of organizing my files/folders. I like to have everything music-related under a subfolder below Documents (documents/music stuff/…).
Toontrack does the same thing - every time I run one of thier products it insists on generating a “Toontrack” folder directly under Documents.
I don’t think there is a way to change this.
Steinberg follows the Microsoft guidelines for Windows with creating all its folders.
I wouldn’t move those folders. Some plugins may lose their presets.
I have plenty of plugins and DAW related folders in my Documents, and I couldn’t care less, I just let them be.
