I regularly record long brass band performances (multi-hour recordings) and use WaveLab for processing before publication. My workflow relies on title markers to organize sections, and I render all titles from my projects—a setup that works well.
To clean up my sessions and save disk space, I’d like to remove all sections between title markers. This led me to explore the Auto Split feature.
Here’s what I’ve observed:
• I set up Auto Split to process selected clips and split them according to Title Start/End markers.
• If I choose “Split”, WaveLab correctly creates separate clips and arranges them neatly with the specified gap.
• However, if I choose “Remove Silent Parts”, nothing happens—no error message, no change.
Am I misunderstanding how “Remove Silent Parts” works, or is this a bug?
I’m running WaveLab Pro 12.0.30 (Mac OS 15.0) .
Additionally, it would be great if the Split function could move markers along with the clips - is that possible?
Thank you for your response, PG1! You’re always helpful.
When selecting “Split” in the screenshot below, with Title Markers (Start/End) as the split criteria, WaveLab correctly creates splits. If “Invert Regions” is checked, it retains the sections between my titles; if unchecked, it retains the sections between my titles, as expected.
However, when I choose “Remove Silent Parts” (regardless of Invert Regions), nothing happens at all. Based on the description, I would expect Remove Silent Parts to behave similarly to “Split”—creating the same cuts—but instead of arranging the clips with a defined interval, it would simply remove the sections in between, leaving the remaining clips in place on the timeline.
I have experimented with all different kinds of settings (except splitting by Title Markers (Start/End) which is what I want), and in all cases “Remove Silent Parts” silently fail, doing nothing.
Am I misunderstanding how this feature is supposed to work?
I was reasoning on the Auto Split processor of the audio editor.
I am using WaveLab 12.0.50 (not 12.0.30). For the Audio Montage, the option “Remove Silent Parts” is disabled for me, it is not possible to select it. I think this is a bug, as well as what you observe with 12.0.30.
I will fix that in a future update.
But if you can use the feature in the Audio Editor, it works there.
Thank you for confirming that this seems unusual. Since I’ve only worked within the Audio Montage, it didn’t occur to me to specify that earlier.
I tested the Audio Editor, and the corresponding option there works exactly as expected—this is the functionality expected to have in Audio Montage as well.
For now, I’ll explore a hybrid workflow, preparing my cuts in the Audio Editor before bringing the trimmed clips into the montage.
