i have kontakt 7 Vst 3 (Ver 7.10.6 ) with string ensemble-symphony series library. shouldn’t it create expression map automatically from Vst 3 instrument , or not necessarily ?
unfortunately no, you have to create expression maps
There are several places online that provide/sell expression maps for various orchestral libraries.
I may be wrong, but…
It’s up to the instrument to pass these parameters to Cubase. Since so many libraries are third party, even if NI (or whoever) did open this up, the instrument devs would also have to make them visible as well.
i see, too bad ! doesn’t “Studio one” DAW can create EM with all vst3 ? maybe I’m wrong though !
i did, but its not that intuitive, especially that you cant copy parameters (like copy slots and edit the copied one) and also when assign or change Key/note on the slots it doesn’t create the “note on” on the output mapping section automatically , and also the “note on” wont follow changes made on root note or the notes on slots !
but maybe im not familiar with it, maybe there is option the “note on” to follow changes
Edit: OK i think i got it, the “remote key settings” is for mapping the keyswitches to midi remote and the output mapping is for the actual VSTi programmed articulation located on the actual VI key.
but 1 problem i see is that when i change the remote key values, it changes to all expression map listed on the left side ! isn’t it saves individually for each map preset ? i mean the remote keys can be different for violins (remote key on lower keyboard) and Basses (remote key on upper keyboard)
The expression maps you see on the left side are those related to the selected track.
And yes, you have to create the expression maps according to the chosen instrument.
look at this post
Key switches and articulation changes
you can sometimes use the same expression maps for multiple instruments for example the same bank for Violins 1 Violins 2 and Violas.
what is important is to keep the same logic of classification and to know if you use keyswitches or program chang.
another thing that matters is whether you use direction or attribute
direction specifying that all notes stay on the same articulation until you change and attribute being linked to each note.
another little tip if you create a lot of tracks with expression maps these files are linked to your cubase cpr file so if for example you want to import tracks with the linked expression maps the best is to create an empty template that contains all your expression maps then you save your tracks in archive tracks and like that all the imported tracks systematically find their expression maps
because otherwise it doesn’t work
yeah ive noticed it, im not using that much EM, but actually i make lately track archives for example 4 section strings with its EM, with its send FX, and groups and insert plugins all into folder and save all for quick recall and ready to compose. maybe later ill make a “preset project” to recall from there. wish there was also ability to save folders as track preset, but its not there yet in cubase
