Automatic playback of walking bass

Hi! I’m working on some jazz scores and in the playback I would like to hear my bass playing a walking bass (or just in general any double bass sound on the one-beat of every measure would already be helpful!). I’ve inserted chord symbols and now I only hear the piano playing the chords. Is there an option in Dorico? Or does NotePerformer maybe offer this?

In any case, I did not find the right setting yet. Thank you in advance for the help!

Welcome to the forum, @Anne-Lien. I’m afraid there’s no automatic generation of bass parts derived from chord symbols in Dorico.

You should be able to quickly write this yourself even if you then want it not to appear: you can have a bass part in your project that doesn’t appear in your full score, or if you want the bass part to appear but to be notated using slashes, you can “cover up” your scratch part with a slash region.

If you have iReal Pro (probably other apps are similar) you could quickly tap in the chords in it, barlines, in the form of the song enough to export the midi file, then use the bass midi track, piano as well if you need that, just as a reference, until you no longer need them.

I was able to generate a semblance of this by explicitly adding the bass option to each chord symbol, but it looks pretty strange when adding the bass to a chord in root position.

C/C → C/B → Am/A → Am/G → F/F → Fm6/Ab → Gsus/G → G7/G → C/C

Playback reflected the walking bass, but unfortunately the program quit abruptly when I tried to generate notes from chord symbols on the otherwise blank piano staff to check the notation.
