Automation seems stuck in autolatch?

I’ve tried this with a few different controllers, so I know the issue is inside cubase (or user error).
I am sending CC 1 from the fader to the automation lane. I see on the left side of the automation lane that the value goes red and blue depending on if I move the fader up or down. But the issue is that when I release the fader, the value stays (and the color strip stays). From what I can tell, it’s like Cubase is acting like it’s in “auto-latch” mode regardless of if I’m in touch or crossover mode, etc.

What I’m trying to be able to do is:
Turn on write more.
Play the track that has existing automation data
Move the fader at the time that I want to change the existing data.
Not affect the automation data that comes after.

Hi,

Use the Touch mode, please.

it’s like Cubase is acting like it’s in “auto-latch” mode regardless of if I’m in touch or crossover mode, etc.

Hi,

Sorry, now I got it.

Then it seems, Cubase doesn’t receive the “Touch Off” MIDI Message. Could you use MIDI Monitor to inspect if Cubase receives the MIDI Message, please?

I don’t think there is such a thing as a “touch off” midi message from CC data.

My understanding is that the way it should work is that the touch mode only updates when new messages come through and will otherwise default to the previous information.

In my midi monitor cc messages are sent when the fader moves and they just stop sending when I release. They don’t send a message saying I’ve stopped. It’s not like sending a midi note number where releasing a key sends a “note off” message.

Do you see a “touch off” midi message in your midi monitor when you release a fader?

Hi,

Mackie Control protocol is using MIDI Message to Touch the fader and Release the fader.

What kind of device do you use, please?

A Fadermaster Pro.

Hi,

Is it using Mackie Control, or does it use own component in Cubase?

It doesn’t use MCU. It’s just a standard midi controller. JL Cooper.

I don’t see anywhere in the manual that says MCU is required. Any mudi fader sending cc info should work. Again I don’t think Cubase is looking for a “touch off” midi message. If so, can you direct me to that documentation?
