Have an automation window at the bottom of the DOP window that is sync’d to project. If you press the play button within DOP, it will only play the project for the length of whatever region(s) you have selected. If you play from the project while viewing your DOP window, the in-DOP automation curse won’t start to move until the projects playback curse reaches that point.
