Avid Artist mix and Artist control drivers - any suggestion please?

Hi to all. I use Cubase since v1, over 20 years, read the forum, and now it’s the first time I am posting.
I need your help/suggestions: I switched three years ago to Nuendo 11, and I have on the USB eLIcencer the software for the Eucon for the Artist Mix and Artist Control from Avid.
I am ready to move to Nuendo 13, also go into the Steinberg licencing system, I got tons of voucers, but not for the Eucon software, which is on the USB eLicencer- 2 of them actually, as I use them both.
Does somebody have an idea on how this move -from USB eLicencer to Steinberg licencing should be done for the Eucon software?
Thank you,
F

Hi Florin,
I have used the Avid Artist and Control, without needing any separate license from Avid. You can just download the correct or latest software from the Avid website, for which you do need a free account to do so.

That reminds me, I still have my eLicenser connected… I have to check it to see if there is anything left on there that needs it, LOL.

Eucon is free and included with Nuendo. I think you just install N13 and it’ll install properly automatically.

Thank you for your answers guys, I am sure it’s working while it is on the USB eLicencer, but once N13 installed and licenced, can I remove the USB licencer, meaning the Eucon will be licenced too together with N13? The idea is to get to the point where I can remove the eLicencer UASB.

Should be fine. I don’t think I have mine attached any longer.

So, I’ve been able to move completely to the new licence system… remove the eLicenser. All OK, except the Avid Artis tControl and Mix freeze. So, it makes the connection, and, within a few minutes, it freezes, especially the Artist Control. It had dissapeared from the Eucontrol window.
I can,t even turn it off. So, I am restarting the EuControl, works for a few minutes and then freezes again.
Any of you had to deal with this issue?

I also took a look at the eLicenser, there are two EuControl and they are both the same version. I never paid attention to it, does it needs two drivers? I doubt, but anyway.
So, when I start Control and then Mix, they show up in the EuControl window, and when one freezes, it dissapears.
Maybe some of you dealt with the issue, I would appreciate some help. I used the Artist Mix and Control for 10 years with no problem, until I switch to the new licencing system.
Thanks,

If they don’t show up in the EuControl window then in my experience that’s a problem with how the device connects to the computer. So if your network connection is dodgy you may have problems.

When you switched over to the new system, did you change anything else on that system? Did you update windows? Update Eucon firm/software? Did any connections change by any chance? Double-checked cables?

Thanks for answer. They do show up, but when one freezes, it dissapears from EuControl window.
I didn’t upgrade the Eucon Software. I did upgrade from Win Pro 11 21H2 to 22H2 ( I hot I got it right).
After I installed Nuendo 13, there is a second Eucon sign in taskbar, when I click on it it shows the version and that it is updated. I didn’t have that one before. Any suggestion please? Like should I uninstall the Eucon and then reinstall? and if I do it, will Nuendo 13 with its licence recognize it?
I have checked the cables, move them on other ports of the Netgear box, did not make a difference.

Interesting. I’m not sure… I might have seen that before as well…

Personally I would try uninstall / reinstall. It almost seems like there are two instances running or something. Annoying problem. I would think N13 should see a reinstalled version.

Or maybe search for old versions before doing anything else? Look at Task Manager in Windows to see if there’s more than one of the same Eucon processes. Or check folders for doubles.

This is clearly a EuCon issue. I recommend you go over to the DUC (https://duc.avid.com/) to find a solution with them, since there seems to be two EuCon instances running at the same time. That should not happen.

I disagree, and here is why:

  • I ran Cubase 9,. 10, 11 with no problems whatsoever for both Artist Control and Artist mix. For whatever reason, I had two eucon icons in the eLicencer USB key- still have them, but I don’t use the USK eLIcencer, it is disconnected.
  • I upgraded to Nuendo 11, and had no problem, it was on eLicencer. I did not uninstall first Nuendo 11, I just went with the upgrade.
  • Then, I upgraded directly to 13 and switch to the new activation system. This is when the problems start. To me it seems that during installation, something went wrong with it.
  • The symptoms (freezing and stopping) started and happen the same, even if I plug the eLicencer or not.
So, it may be more useful if you can tell me where is Nuendo 13 installing the Eucon adapter, how to uninstall it, and what would be the procedure to reinstall only the Eucon software.
I can download it from avid website, it is a general installer, but I imagine I should be cleaning the old ones. I wouldn’t want to re-install Nuendo 13 again.
I would assume that in the installation instructions for nuendo 13 I should have find a note if it is recommended to uninstall the old Eucon, but I didn’t see any indication about it.
If there are two instances running at the same time, it means there is a problem with the Nuendo installation, not an eucon problem, and in this case I would appreciate help on how to uninstall and reinstall the Eucon control for nuendo 13. I am not at all convinced it is at this point an Eucon problem.

Also, can someone point me at where exactly is Nuendo 13 installing the Eucon? is it the same place like Nuendo 11?

I did expect some reaction. The reality is that I have to look for answers somewhere else. Quite disappointing.

Personally I haven’t had time because I’ve been working and the rest of the time I’ve spent trying to be social and so on. Since I don’t know where it installs I would have had to research it just like you now have to. I suspect many people don’t know where it installs so they too would have to research it.

Sometimes you just don’t get answers. I know that can be disappointing. Once you find out please share with the rest of us.

and the rest of the time I’ve spent trying to be social…

I like the effort to act normal here! I often have to force myself to be social as well.

@Florin_Buciu
I have an artist mix and came from Nuendo 10 and am now on 13. No problems here (I’m on a Mac btw). Just install the latest Eucon drivers from Avid and install them. Then check your cables and network settings (check eucon manual) and after booting N13 (check the settings in the manual).
it is really nothing more than that, nothing to install from Steinberg or to activate.

Thank you for your response. If I start only the Artist Mix it’s working, however, I have both Artist Mix and Artist Control, and it’s not working. I am on windows. I have checked the cables, no problem there, as I tried with other CAT cables, and it was the same.

this sounds like a network setup issue if only 1 device works. contact support a t avid or experiment with the network features in the devices.

Thanks for suggestion, I will check. Interesting enough, when I start both, they work, but after a few minutes Artist Control freezes. Hopefully I get to the bottom of it. There is also a certain problem with how the Nuendo 13 deals with Eucon, the Steinberg support confimed it in a support request. They are working on it, hopefully sooner than later. Will let you know if the problem gets fixed, and how, for now I can’t use them.

What problem are you referring to?
