Can anyone share their experiences with the Avid Dock and Nuendo 13? Do all the essential controls work? I tested the AVID Control app and I’m impressed. Even controlling the channel strip works via the HEAT tab. What are the biggest problems with the EUCON implementation in NUENDO?
in my opinion the biggest problems with EUCON implementation in NUENDO are:
-some channel configurations have no meters (for Example 7.1.4)
-many functions are implemented via EUCON Key Commands, sometimes the correct window has to be in focus for it to work and you get no status feedback.
-these functions sometimes stop to work, I have to restart EUCON to fix.
-there are nice features Eucon provides that are not implemented in NUENDO
-regarding the Avid Dock there are automation features that are labelled on the buttons that do not exist or work convenient in NUENDO
Overall I love it, but 90% of my work is done in ProTools, and here my Dock and Artist combination really shines with EUCON.
I still would buy it again, even if I worked only with NUENDO.
I’m nitpicking here but if I understand you correctly it is just key commands that are being used, not Eucon key commands specifically. So it isn’t a Eucon issue, it’s just a general issue. In other words we have the same problem using a regular keyboard to trigger those commands.
I agree with everything else (though I don’t use the Dock).
+1 with pretty much everything Dirx has said. If you’re willing to spend the time it’s possible to get a very satisfying (my opinion) level of integration between N13 and Eucon once you start personalising the controls to your workflow. The most annoying thing is the way Eucon will occasionally drop connection with Nuendo, but that’s a 30 sec fix.
In a perfect world the transport buttons would have a mechanical feel but I guess this isn’t a perfetc wrlod…
couple of times in a 10 hour day? Sometimes it’s as good as gold other times it’s more frequent. Over the last 12 months it’s not been annoying enough to spend time tracking down possible causes. YMMV.
My hunch is that this has to do with network conflicts or something. If I spend literally the entire day working and doing nothing else on my workstation then I don’t get a disconnect. The only times I’ve ended up with them is if I also do other things on the computer, and typically the more things I have going on at once the higher the odds of a disconnect. Basically I’m talking about file up/downloads, YouTube during lunch or a break, a bunch of emails and text messaging (using link-to-windows) and so on.
If I have disconnects it’s usually no more than once in a day.
We’ve owned S1’s in our mix suites at the office for a few years now and I can only remember them disconnecting once (or twice) in all of that time. EUCON has been rock solid for us. We’re a Premiere/Pro Tools house, but I’ve begun slowly transitioning to Nuendo for personal projects at home. I’m using an SSL UF8/UF1/UC1 system that I’m happy with, but have been eyeing the “extras” that EUCON offers with both PT and Nuendo.
It’s good to hear that it works well with Nuendo. Now the S1 and Dock are burning a hole in my Sweetwater shopping cart.
With EUCON key commands I did mean the ones that are in the “Key Commands” Category under “Details” in the Soft Key Command Editor when NUENDO is the application.
For Example “Auto Join” is a EUCON Command located under Automation Controls/Join Modes/Auto Join
while
“Punch out of Latch Automation” is a EUCON Command located under Key Commands/Automation/Punch out of Latch Automation
It is not available in the “Automation Controls” Category. And it does not show its Status (LED or virtual button)
Also things like “Input monitor” and “Q-Link” are under the “Key Commands” Category and not showing their status. (on or off), which is a shame.
As far as I tested all functions triggered from this Category do not show their status and also these are the functions that stop working sometimes while the “Core EUCON Commands” continue to work.
At least on my System and with NUENDO.
I only meant to clarify that this isn’t a Eucon-specific problem. The way I look at it is that Eucon provides all sorts of functionality that operates the way we want, and then added to all of that is plain old key commands. Nothing particularly Eucon about it. We’d have exactly the same problems with a programmable qwerty keyboard.
