So I have a computer I am switching to from WIN 10 to 11. The AXR has the latest firmware (3.1 11/10) and works with the 10 workstation fine. I installed Yamaha Device Manager for from the Yamaha site again, went through the steps the manual instructed for the WIN 11 machine. My until comes up as “demo” and shows disconnected. In Windows device manager, there is no SteinbergAXR driver as it was in the WIN 10 machine. What am I missing? Same cable on numerous USB ports.
I’m having the same problem with my AXR4U on the latest version of macOS. It doesn’t work at all with v3.10 of the AXR tools as near as I can tell.
Good luck with Yamaha support. Steinberg now refers hardware support to them. They don’t acknowledge a submission and after 3 days haven’t responded in any way. When I called their support line they said they do not support anything Steinberg and gave me a phone number that only is there from 11am to 1pm. This is far beyond the excellent support I have known from Steinberg. I have no suggestion except to petition Steinberg support again. I’m waiting to see.
Thanks for the suggestion. I dug into the Steinberg support site and found a link for our product that led me to file a ticket with Yamaha. I’ve already had three responses from them, all telling me that I’d need to file a ticket with Steinberg instead. Only you can’t file a ticket without picking a product, and the product field doesn’t list any hardware products at all. We’ll see if they get back to me.
That’s the circular maze some manager has created, making a decision that has not fully walked through on what a supportive customer has to endure. Today it is commonly called the customer journey and this one has not been plotted or tested. I’d love to give the manager a lesson in how to verify a system works. But it seems he too is absent.
I might perhaps be a bit too cynical, but I don’t think there’s anything accidental or unplanned about it. I’ve watched the enshittification process with tech companies for years, finding various finger-pointing loops to avoid all responsibility. I hope that’s not what Steinberg is doing, but they wouldn’t be unusual at all if so. But again, I’ll see if they get back to me and post anything helpful I find.
Good timing. As anticipated, Steinberg replied to me today saying that Steinberg does not support Steinberg hardware at all, claiming that’s Yamaha’s responsibility. So I appear to be caught in exactly the kind of responsibility-avoiding finger-pointing BS I expect these days.
Steinberg’s US Support Manager to the rescue. If you contact the US phone support for Steinberg at (681) 416-4333, they can help you between 11am -1PM ET. The initial person had never heard of the Yamaha Device Center and so I as transferred. Yamaha’s communications have been mixed up. You DO NOT use the Yam Device Center to access the AXR like you think. In a Teamviewer, he found all we need to do is search for AXR and the old app is still provided in the download. Use that.
First, thanks for those details. I’ll try that when I get out of the day-job meetings in which I’m presently trapped
But second, I’m a bit confused by what you’ve said. I say that because the Yamaha Device Center is included and installed by the latest version of the AXR tools to which I believe you refer. And while it may not be essential to using the device with Cubase/Nuendo/etc., the fact that it fails to communicate with the unit might explain why Cubase/Nuendo/etc. also fail to communicate with it.
