Backbone - No license?

Hi,

I got a free license of backbone from plugin boutique a while ago. Now I tried to activate it. It shows under ‘My Products’ in my website account and in the Download Assistant, but opening it in Cubase gives me ‘No license found’ and License Manager does nothing. Is this a known problem? Any hints for a solution?

Thanks.

Hi!

Can you open the (Steinberg) Activation Manager and check if Backbone is listed as an activated product? How many activations (up to three per single product license are possible)?
Did you login with the correct email adress?

It’s not listed in Activation Manager, but listed under “My products” in Download Manager and under owned software in my account. I haven’t installed/activated it before, so activation count should be 0. It is the right account, all other Steinberg software is working.

Can you check if you run the latest version of the Activation Manager? Otherwise, please update the application.
Here’s a link

I reinstalled the current AM version and Backbone - no change.

Did Backbone originally need the USB licenser? In that case I might have missed the transition period. In my Plugin Boutique account it shows as 1.0.0.

Hi,

I got Backbone for free, too, also from Plugin Boutique (probably 2 years ago). The download link still shows version 1.0 but even that version was already integrated into the new licensing system. I don’t think that it has something to do with the old licensing system.

I think that the communication between Activation Manager, My Steinberg and the SDA is not properly working. OR…

Can you log into your Plugin Boutique account once again and go to “My LIbraray”? Here, you’ll find your Backbone license, please click on “Show License” and copy the Download Access Code.

Now, try to enter this DAC into your Steinberg Activation Manager. Maybe it hasn’t yet been properly redeemed?

If this DAC has already been used:
What OS are you on? Also, which Cubase/Nuendo version?

That’s how I did it. Copied the code and entered it in both the Download Assistant and after that didn’t work at MySteinberg. It always shows “registered successfully”. It shows up in both but not in Activation Manager.

I’m using Win11 and Cubase 15.

Thanks for taking the time.

Okay, I am running out of ideas…

Can you try to have a quick look at your MySteinberg account and look at the voucher section? IF your Backbone version is still bound to the old licensing system then you should find a voucher that enables you to transfer the old license to the new licensing system.

If there’s no such voucher:
Please, quit all Steinberg applications and press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to open the task manager. Scroll down to Steinberg Licensing Engine and terminate the process. Now restart your computer and try again.

I keep my fingers crossed…

Done. No change, no voucher.

Seems I have to try the official support route and have an exercise in patience

Thanks for your help though :+1:

Sorry that I couldn’t be of much help. Hopefully someone else chimes in, too.

In case Steinberg solves the issue in the meantime - please let us know. This might be of help to someone who might encounter a similiar problem in the future.

Good luck!
