Anyone know why I am seeing bar numbers on every measure when I went to Layout Options and then Bar Numbers and then did NOT select “Show Bar Numbers at Rehearsal Marks”? I still have bar numbers were every Rehearsal Mark is located.
Did you apply the settings to the correct Layout(s)?
Hmmm. Well… I think so. I am looking at my score in Engrave mode and I think the layout in on the right side of the screen where it shows the pages, correct? I assume that is the layout.
Maybe I will try to attach a portion of the score later when I can and maybe it would make it easier to figure out what I am missing here.
Thanks and I will attach a part ofthe score later.
Best,
Gary
Here is a portion of the score where I can’t seem to get the bar numbers to not show at Rehearsal Markers. Any help much appreciated. Still learning here.
Measure Number Question Partial Score.dorico (1.3 MB)
Daniel,
I have attached a portion of my score to your reply on the forum.
Thanks.
It all seems to work. The Full score has no bar numbers except for the Rehearsal Marks. Each part shows bar numbers at the start of each system, except when they coincide with a Rehearsal Mark (eg…
(Are you perhaps only looking at Galley View - which shows all bar numbers unless you switch them off in View>bar numbers)
I can see small bar numbers under each bar of the score.
But as for the parts, yes, they look fine from here.
Oops - my aged eyes missed them!
Yes, my score has bar numbers under the Timpani part at the bottom of the score. Did the one I send not have those? It appears that the parts when I look at them have “ghosted” numbers in page view. I guess I need to somehow add bar numbers to the parts as well? I am so confused. The numbers are there, but they aren’t.
Thanks.
You might be referring to the grey bar, known as the System Track?
This is used to select all objects in a bar and can easily be hidden by the key command Alt/Opt+T or by going to View > System Track and unticking.
Yes, they did. @Janus blamed old age on the error.
Where bar numbers are visible is controlled via Layout Options (N.B. there are some design settings available in Engraving Options).
You can make changes to multiple Layouts at once by selecting the ones you want to edit before adjusting the settings:
The overall issue could be that your bar numbers aren’t at the same vertical position as the rehearsal marks and Dorico is thinking “we don’t need to hide them because they’re not at risk of colliding”? Just a thought.
E.g. Go to Layout Options > Bar Numbers > Placement > Show above top staff of system, and the bar numbers at rehearsal marks will be hidden.
Daniel,
That worked as you predicted. My problem is that my publisher wants the numbers only below the bottom staff of the score. I guess I will need to negotiate that item since it does not appear I can do what I was hoping to do here.
Thanks again for the great help. I have to take my hat off to the Dorico users: they all seem more than happy to try to help us poor , struggling “lifers” in Finale make the transition with grace.
This worked as well. I was able to get both the score and the parts to behave with the bar numbers as long as I put them on the top over the bar lines. Maybe on one of the updates, they can make it so you can place the bar lines where you want them and be able to hide the numbers at the rehearsal marks.
Thanks so much.
You can select individual bar numbers and hide them. You can select them “in bulk” by Cmd+clicking them, open Properties and select Hide bar number. Just make sure your Properties Scope is set to Local rather than Global or they will hide everywhere!
Great advice!
Thank you.
Tanks for the reply, Daniel. I am just a little surprised that I can achieve the same results if I want to place the numbers under the bottom staff in the score. Your suggestion worked for numbers above the top staff.
Thank you so much.
