I am trying to connect the barline between these 2 staves
I would love to also be able to connect the repeat between staves like this:
Processing: image.png…
Thanks
Here I created a (default) project for guitar, added a flute, then put them both in a Group in Setup Mode.
Next I went to Layout Options and selected Brackets and Braces > Small ensemble.
I’d recommend deleting the repeats you already have in there. I’m not entirely sure about this, but I seem to recall that I’d also see those extra overlaid single-staff repeats if I didn’t.
I selected Small Ensemble from the Layouts Menu - I can see the barline across both in Write View:
But when I switch to Engrave or print, they go away:
I have the Guitar and BG’s set up as a group in the Layout.
I believe that isn’t so much “true” grouping as it is telling Dorico which players’ part(s) to include in that Layout, whether they’re grouped or not.
Did you try the grouping in Setup Mode that I showed above?
If I do that, can I group the BG part with something else?
I believe players can only be in one group.
It might be time for you to upload the file so we can have a look.
You might also find this Dorico video helpful:
Set both of these:
-
Layout Options - you need to ensure you have relevant Layout selected in the right side of Layout Options before setting and applying this:
-
Engraving Options:
and you should get the correct result in Page View:
It isn’t necessary to put these players in a Group in Setup mode, but doing so doesn’t prevent this from working.

Thanks - I tried with another part and removed all but the one staff -
-made sure those settings were correct for that layout as well
-re-grouped the 2 other staffs
- created new bracket (had to delete several bracket changes that were there for some reason)
It all worked fine - without having to group players. Just grouped in Layouts.
