Bass tuning issues

Hi and happy new year all. Has anyone ever noticed especially using bass synths in Cubase that the tuning can often be suspect? I use Serum for bass generally but even Halion 7 or sonic goes off too. I generally plot the notes on the key editor. It can be most frustrating.

I’m also finding Massive is a semitone down. Strange one.

May sound odd but in Cubase 14 I was wondering why my piece of music was sounding off. I discovered it’s because the instruments were a semitone behind the audio files which I checked to be in perfect pitch. The instruments are Serum and Massive. Both playing a semitone too low. That’s not coincidence. I use an iPhone app to check the pitch. I had to compensate by raising everything a semitone in serum and massive. Shouldn’t hafta do that. On other occasions it’s off completely. Notes between notes. It’s a serious problem.

its a problem with your plugins, or pitch bend, or sample rate (especially if you are using an access virus) or some continuous controller. You can narrow it down by using another vsti and seeing if the issue still persists, then try disconnecting all external keyboards etc and draw in some bass notes

This will likely work it it with any luck. Professional sequencers don’t adjust the note values of parts randomly. Good luck

could also be a transpose on the midi plugins panel

Could it be a wrong sample rate for the project?
Did the OS overwrite the project sample rate?

Many thanks Toby. Sorry I didn’t get back before now as I was in transit. I’ll try checking the pointers you suggested. Could very well be where the problem lies. Much appreciated. :+1:

Thanks st10ss. I might very well be. It’s a frustrating problem. Sometimes it’s exactly a halftone down other times it’s randomly off key. I’ll let you know how I get on. Much appreciated.

I’ll let you know how I get on. Might be a useful find.
