Batch MusicXML exporting from Finale

I was just in touch with some fellow composer friends with big Finale catalogs, offering the news and whatever support I could. A quick web search turned up this. Anyone have experience with this and/or know of anything else/newer to recommend our Finale-user friends?

Dolet 7 lets you translate an entire folder of MusicXML files into Finale files, or an entire folder of Finale files into MusicXML files. If you have a lot of files to transfer, this is an enormous time saver.

That’s a very old plug-in - 32 bit, works with Finale 2011.

You can batch process a whole folder to XML directly from Finale.

Thanks, @benwiggy. Like Dan —though more quickly! — I seem to have forgotten lots about Finale.

Finale 27 does indeed offer batch exporting of Finale files but on the older 2014.5v I’ve had to install Dolet 7. Yes it does offer folder exporting but not folders within folders. Means I cant just set it going and get a cup of coffee while it converts all of my folders.

You might be able to find an action script process to do this for you (move all contents of enclosed folders to the parent (either Mac or Windows.) I seem to remember using something like this at some point but cannot recall the details.
For Mac, Automator (or Shortcuts) might do this.

It does: you need to set the MusicXML Preferences to include subfolders.

However, I believe it doesn’t close each file, and will crash when it’s had too many. Probably worth turning the error logs on, too.

If one does not try to convert too many folders/files at once (at least on a PC) the utility does close the files after writing the XML files.
