Beam groupings for 16th notes in common time

I can’t for the life of me find the beam grouping setting to make 16th notes like this:

default to behave like this:

so that 16th notes on Beats 1 and 2 or 3 and 4 don’t get beamed together.

My current workaround involves me selecting the four sixteenths on beat 4 and choosing “Beam Together”.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You could change the number of beat groups to two by entering the time signature as shift-M [2+2]/4, though you may find some collateral damage to other note groupings.

Is your meter something like 2/2? In Dorico 5.2 maybe, or 5.1, there’s an option in Notation options>note grouping that enables Dorico to treat cutc meters as 4/4, as far as beam grouping and note grouping are concerned. Use that.

I’m using common time. For some reason it’s grouping them oddly. But if I add an addtional meter mark of “C” right before the section, the grouping works as expected.

Common Time groups semi quavers in 4 groups of 4.

Sorry, I understood the legend of your pictures the other way round. What you want is the default for 2/2, so change it to 2/2 and hide it in the properties, without following my first advice !!!
