I’ve run into this a number of times and I can’t seem to find the option that will allow me to split the beam between (3rd & 4th beats. I have to go in manually and force duration. Is there a setting somewhere that I am missing or is it the Default Dorico way? Merci.

If it’s just one or a few notes you need fixed, just select the note → hold control key (Mac) and click on note again to get a pop up menu → choose Beaming → split.
That is how I fix this when needed. Again: if it’s for a few notes. Otherwise what Nickie states.

I’ve spent a lot of time there and have not found the magical preference to break beams at beats - even 16th notes in my example.
Ah, I found it in Note Grouping in Notation Options. Overall I prefer Notate as Single Notes so I will keep that and occasionally split beams when needed or Force Duration with two 16th’s in this case.
It would be nice to split this preference into another for 16th notes only.
