Beat grouping/ties

What’s the setting that will prevent the two tied quarter notes from happening?

Time signature is 4/2. This is an early-music edition in which I want all original note values. I thought I’d changed all the settings in Notation Options->Note Grouping that addressed this.

I know I can go back and change it using force duration, but this is the third out of ninety-five pieces, so I’d like to have it be set globally.

I don’t think there is an option that would achieve this globally.
(though I may be wrong)

Force duration is not too arduous, especially if you can anticipate its need.

That’s too bad. I’m afraid of missing them, although I guess I can spot them without actually having to check the source.

What’s the exact process for forcing the duration? I shortened it to one quarter note (Alt-Shift-Arrow) and then changed it to a half note and clicked force duration, but the clamp icon does not stay lit.

It depends on whether you use pitch or duration first.
I do duration before pitch so the sequence is o (choose duration) (choose pitch).

If you have a piece with a rhythmic pattern that repeats frequently, it is often quickest to grab an earlier example and paste (it retains the forced durations), then use Lock duration (L) to re-pitch it.

To change the notation of the existing tied note select it and press
u to remove the tie
o to force duration
7 to get a half note

Yes. The process all depends on where you are starting from!
