Beginner question about divisi in one voice

Hi, my question is precisely this one from 2018:

I sometimes find it convenient to write string parts in one voice, but which are actually short divisi passages. For example, violin one is playing in unison, then dyads, but the dyads should not be double stops but split among V1

The 2018 answer is

Divisi is not yet implemented. I think the recommendation is to enter it as text.

Obviously divisi is implemented now, but in, for example, the following simple case, going to two staves seems overkill.

Slice 1

(Everyone is unison for many measures before and after this slice.) What would be the proper way to notate that the [B, D], [B, C#], and [C#, E] are divisi?

I have two goals:

  1. clarity for the performers
  2. handle the proof-reading note “Multiple notes require the same string” (attached to the [B, C#])

A second question, if you please: would it have been more proper for me to simply reply to the 2018 forum question? I wasn’t sure if replying there would bring my post to the forum’s attention, or if it would just back to the original post’s author.

You’ll want to create a downstem voice, entering text (div/unis) as needed.

In most cases section string players seeing this will divide as a matter of course. I would add the div. text for clarity and leave the note heads on a single stem.

Since I virtually never show proof reading, triggering it wouldn’t bother me.

(FWIW, Gould says that divisi on a single stem should only be used in a score, not in parts.)
