Hello, while I edit my music in Write Mode, sometimes a group of grey shadow notes appear and I hear middle c notes. This happens when I select notes, and it seems to be triggered by me touching some other key by mistake.
Probably something to do with pitch before duration input (which I am not familiar with). I would like to disable this distraction. Can someone lead me onto the right path, please?
Hi @k_b, not sure I can visualise what is happening: could you upload a short video that shows what the issue? (With the left panel also visible).
Maybe you could try activating the Selection tool, which prevents the caret and the shadow notes to appear while changing staff position in pitch before duration:
Are you using a mouse to enter notes?
For note input it is computer keyboard plus MIDI keyboard. It is duration before pitch for me.
Yesterday I tried to reproduce the problem, but couldn’t. At least I got the tools for screen recording ready…
The thing is, note input works completely automatic, without the brain being really involved. I can’t tell, when exactly I am using the mouse: only when editing (f.e. filtering via right click) or starting a selection.
OK, I’m stumped. I was thinking you might be entering notes with the mouse, which can show grey notes. MIDI should work fine. It sounds like you use the mouse like I do.
Are you speaking about this, maybe?
Yes exactly, this looks familiar..
Thank you @charles_piano
I was able to make a screen recording - and disabled the suggested preference in Dorico. Now everything is fine for me.
