Beginning of a glissando

Hi everyone,

How could I create a glissando like the one shown in the attached image?

The glissando starts from a note that has what looks like an open 32nd-note flag (or three diagonal slashes) attached to the stem, before the wavy glissando line begins. I’m not sure what the correct name for this notation.

Is there a native way to create this in Dorico, or would it require a workaround with custom symbols, lines, or hidden grace notes?

Thanks!

Hi,

Here is a way to achieve that:

Enter two 32nd notes in upstem voice 1:

Enter a B (unison) in downstem voice 1, dotted half:

if they don’t overlap (like in the screenshot above) select the dotted half in Engrave mode, and set the Voice column index to 0[1]:

In Engrave Mode, select the second 32nd note, and hide the notehead, the stem and the ledger line:

Create the gliss, and remove the rests (Edit > Remove rests):

  1. There’s also a notation Option for that:

Note that this can cause horizontal spacing issues if, for example, other players have 16ths at the same moment.

In that case it may be better to create the 32nd notes inside a larger tuplet and move the hidden note in Engrave Mode to adjust the beam.

Within Properties, I suppose. The better way, no ?

To move the note, you mean? In Engrave Mode > Note Spacing. Click the square (the beat’s position) then the circle (the note’s position), then Alt/Opt+Arrow. It will move only this note.

Yes, I’m aware of that.

But I prefer to use the spacing setting in the properties (see screenshot) because it displays a precise value. In fact, it was you who showed me this setting.

Ah yes, you’re right. Voice Column X offset is the equivalent of the circle I was refering to!
