In Cubase 13, the function “Merge Tempo Track from MIDI events” from previous versions has been renamed to “Calculate tempo from MIDI events.”
If I simply want to detect the tempo of a freely recorded audio track, I need to create a new helper MIDI track, tap the tempo, for example, to a 1/4 note, and then select “Calculate tempo from MIDI events.” This involves approximately 9 steps. Afterward, I remove the helper MIDI track.
This is currently my method for tempo detection, as most of the time, the automatic tempo detection does not work for my type of music.
I was wondering why we can’t record/merge the tempo taps and have it recorded as automation in the Tempo track?
This could be designed in two ways:
- In the new tap tempo feature in Cubase 13, Add another option to “Tap Tempo mode”, say called, “Record Taps into the Tempo Track as automation”
- Having a record arm botton just like regular audio/midi tracks; They can also use monitor button on the tempo track to mute/unmute the click/metronome.
Either way, the merge tempo feature is not reduced from 10 steps to 1 step only!
