Better Window Management Please

Many people these days are using shortcuts on their control surface to navigate between apps etc. :+1: But in Cubase, if I go from the Mix Console to another app via a shortcut and then back to the Mix Console, on closing the Mix Console the Project View should be visible right? But it’s not. I return to the app previously in use.
Oh, and sometimes Cubase just disappears after closing e.g. the Studio Setup window.

Hi,

I’m sorry, I don’t understand your request.

First of all, you are talking about apps and at the other hand you are talking about ā€œMix Consoleā€ and ā€œProject Viewā€, which are not apps.

So if I understand you right:

  • Start Cubase.
  • Open MixConsole window.
  • Use shortcut (which one?) to switch to other application.
  • Use the same shortcut to switch back to Cubase.
  • Close MixConsole (how via Key Command or via mouse?)
    => The other app appears.

Expectation: Project window appears.

Do I understand you correct?

If it’s like this, it’s a bug, not a feature-request.

Are you on Windows?

Yes, you understand me right. I am using BMTP to switch apps via an ā€˜App Focus’ function it has.
I go:
Project view > Mix Console via Generic Remote CC > VEP via App Focus function > Cubase via App Focus function which takes me back to the Mix Console and then on closing the Mix Console via same Generic Remote CC, I end up back in VEP.

I am on Windows.

Hi,

Is the result the same, if you use standard shortcuts, please? I mean Win + Tab to switch the applications?

Hello Martin,

the shortcut to switch to another app is not important. It happens in any way, also with standard Windows key commands or mouse.
It is an anormal behaviour for a Windows program. Or at least compared to how Windows apps used to run some years ago. Usually you had a mother window and then daughter windows. If you switch between windows or close a daughter window the app itself will remain the active app. Cubase, however, does not run like a standard windows program (as also indicated by the Mac emulator called ā€œmenu barā€).

Very Strange behaviour with the Win+TAB approach too.
If I open the Studio Setup or key Commands window and then select it from the Win+TAB screen, on closing that window, no Cubase. Same with the Mix Console. Whereas, in VEP, if I open the Options/Preferences window and then select it from the Win+TAB screen, on closing that window I stay in VEP.

I agree. The floating menu bar has to go. It’s an eyesore and it makes switching through focused apps an absolute pain.

+1, I agree. Behaviour is unlike other windows apps and inconsistent.

Seriously, Cubase just disappears randomly 20+ times a session. Importing an audio file or importing tracks from a project, on clicking OK, Cubase = Poof!! Mega irritating!!!
