Yeah AU (Audio Unit) belongs to the Mac realm although you can install all sorts of extensions no matter what OS you are on. They will not do anything apart from resting where they are, though.
What I did not know is that the path
is a Mac only thing. I assumed that this was the internal directory of the plugin itself. Thanks for clearing that up!
