Big bug in midi connection?

The routing of midi signal from midi in to layers is crazy!

Your post is… What shall developers do with it.

Take your time an describe it. What’s the specific issue? How can it be reproduced?

ok: simply:

  1. I created in ā€˜connections’ (MIDI) 3 MIDI inputs ( MIDI in 1,2,3) and created 3 layers, routing to them the 3 MIDI in above (keeping the same numbers, layers 1,2,3) 2) Now I’ve just 1 master keyboard and say, I assign to MIDI in 1 3) now I play : you’d expext to hear sounds from layer 1 ONLY , ok? ..no ! you hear maybe 1 and 2 , or even 1,2, and 3.. or some times, if I then swith , for example my keyobard from MIDI in 1 to MIDI in 2, it happens that all layers DON’T sound..

here MIDI in 2

..and ALL three layers play

casually here all layers play, but sometimes 2 of them or sometimes no one of them

BYE! thanx

Hi Stafano!

It helps if you show us the entire window in each shot.

I’m guessing you have a shared or Global Halion layer and that the levels are showing the audio output from it.

Change your Layer Audio/MIDI toggle to MIDI - does it still show signal?

ok, here’s another test result:

MIDI in 1 + 2 connected : all 3 layers play

MIDI in 1 only connected:

none of 3 layers plays

The problem seems to be that assigning hardware devices to ā€œMIDI Connectionsā€ doesn’t work reliably if you reassign the same hardware to another ā€œconnectionā€. I can confirm that. That being said, you can easily select the desired hardware directly in each layer. So there’s no need to take the deviation via Connections.

PS changing audio to midi the toggle ,doesn’t affect..

Right, but this is ok if play always in the same room with the same equipment..you set them once and then ok..

BUT

I play sometimes in different reharsal rooms with different master keyboards: changin them in ā€˜connections’ it’s a few seconds’ affair , if I had to change them layer by layer, song by song ….a NIGHTMARE !!!

Well, yeah, I see your point …

I think you’re misunderstanding - happy to do an AnyDesk remote session with you to sort it out. PM me if interested.

I really HOPE I’m misunderstanding!! Thanks for the AnyDesk idea.. when could you a free slot of time to do that? Thanks for your kindness

@Stefano_Breseghello - Check your messages…

Having 3 Layers with 3 different instruments and needed only one layer to be playable and recordable, you create only one MIDI IN 1 and assign it as an input in all 3 MIDI tracks while they are routed to their layer. You click monitor button on the track to listen and record button to record - one or all three tracks at the time.

At the same time if you sometimes have three keyboards, but sometimes one or two, you make MIDI IN 1, 2 and 3 (all three point to one keyboard) and assign them as an input for tracks. Anyway then you hit monitor only on those tracks you want to hear and record to record. It works, I checked. I can give you my test project file.

I’m trying with another pc and it’s a real disaster , i’m asking myself what i’m doing wrong,IF (I hope) I’m doing wrong..

This is what I’m simply doing now:

  1. in ā€˜connections’ :set keyboard A as MIDI in 1 and keyboard B as MIDI in 2

2)created layer 1 and layer 2 then routed MIDI in 1 - layer 1 , MIDI in 2 - layer 2

and until this, it all works.

  1. back to ā€˜connections’ , invert keyboard routing : keyboard A as MIDI in 2 and keyboard B as MIDI in 1 : here comes the problem : layer 2 works , layer 1 NO !!

and this is only the beginning.. adding another keyboard the combination of possible errors grows! please try this on you pc! I can’t work live with such a messy software!

I mean, I’m maybe wrong in some way, but as you can see is a much simple test , there is not much room for mistakes…

By the way, my computers are both Intel I9 cpu - 32gb ram 1tb SSD ..
