BIOS change results in Stackhash crash?

I recently had an overclocking failed issue with my BIOS, (My BIOS kept overclocking itself, despite attempts to revert to default, so in order to solve this i cleared the CMOS).

After resetting to defaults, (notably, this resumed all of the bad energy saving features (C-step, turbo etc)

Now, even cubaswe projects I knew were good are crashing when loading on Cubase 8 and Cubase 7.5. I’ll try clearing the prefs (AGAIN!) but is it possible the BIOS change is causing the crashing? I’m pretty sure that’s all that changed, besides perhaps a recent windows update.

Maybe that’s dumb but I’m just grasping at straws here, because i’ve reset my prefs like 3 times the past week.

Resetting prefs did not save the day this time… I also discovered the TPU switch was enabled on the mobo, and that is probably the cause of auto-overclocking issue.

I cleared ALL of cubase prefs from Cubase 6, 7, and 8, and was able to load with Kontakt as the only plugin. Next I’ll see if PLAY or ql spaces is causing the issue.

BINGO. Cleared settings and project loads fine. Add QL Spaces directory to VST plugin manager? Crash. Dump files attached. Please fix this crash EWQL.
QL SPaces issue dumps.zip (168 KB)

Project will load with:

  1. Kontakt Only
  2. QL Spaces only
  3. Play VST only
  4. Kontakt and PLAY only

Project will not load with

  1. Kontakt and QL spaces only
  2. QL Spaces and Play only

So basically I can use one of these products but none of them simultaneously with QL Spaces.

These project files were working fine last week but now they wont load. that makes no sense…even an older project from last month wont open. there’s gotta be something with a setting that got changed…

well now its back working again. wtf.

crashing again this morning. Description

i have

WERInternalMetadata.xml
AppCompat.txt
memory.hdmp
minidump.mdmp

but they are 227MB

so the first 4 attempts today resulted in these crashes, but finally I got it to work. So I have to do load it 4+ times before it finally works? that makes perfect sense.

Yeah that’s all she wrote, folks. I can repeat this. After rebooting Cubase will crash exactly 4 times, and on the 5th time it will successfully load the project. The first crash gives QL Spaces x64.dll as the cause, and the other crashes are StackHash_a119. I should retitle this post since it clearly has nothing to do with my BIOS settings.

Hi aptmusic9,

you have to install all available Win 7 updates. “ntdll.dll” is a Windows dll.

Hope this helps

OK that’s a relief. I have all the updates. I ran SFC scan now and my system had issues, but I still wasn’t sure if that was the cause since some crashes were referencing QL Spaces as the issue. Im afraid to do it but i guess I need to run an install repair (or clean install Windows)

Hi Luis,

Could it still be a QL Spaces issue? I load this project fine 100% of the time in CB 7.5 where I have QL Spaces disable. Also when I disable QL Spaces it loads fine in Cubase 8 100% of the time. If it was my OS, I would assume everything would crash. Also, why does this project load SOMETIMES, and crash other times. First it was load 4 times and then it would work. Now i have to load it upwards of 10 times before it will load.

FWIW I just completed an in-place upgrade of Windows 7, essentially overwriting my OS but keeping programs and settings intact. Although my project file is working, one time I loaded it and got the ntdll.dll crash again. I also got a QL spaces crash again just now.

im tempted to try an inplace upgrade to Win 8. im that desparate

Wow I had an NTFS.sys BSOD during playback of a YouTube video…maybe the restore was not enough and I do need to clean install.

I wonder if there is not a bios setting (again) or even a hardware issue on your machine.
