Bizarre sounds using Iconica (not sketch) and HALion 7 for synths

I am trying to engrave a score that I have a copy of, just for personal fun.

I am using Iconica (not sketch), and HALion 7 (not HALion Sonic). I have the Iconica Playback template set. I have 2 synthesizers, and am using 2 separate instances of HALion 7 to pick sounds that I think will work for my immediate playback needs. The piece starts with one of the synths playing a line.

When I press play, I start to hear this “helicopter” sounds (da-da-da-da), perhaps it’s more of a machine gun sound. The only instrument being triggered is the synth.

When I ‘solo’ the synth in play mode, I hear only the synth. When I un-solo (is this a word) the synth, the choppy helicopter/machine gun sound returns.

Does anyone have any thoughts? Searching the forum for Helicopter sounds returns no results.

Here is a watered down version that demonstrates the issue.

Playback Helicopter.dorico (3.9 MB)

Playing around with it I discovered that the offending instruments were Horn 1 and Horn 2.

When pressing the ‘e’ to edit the instrument, HALion 7 opened up with no brass instruments, but rather string instruments. This lead me to look at all of the instruments, and over half of them did not load appropriate instruments. I re-applied the Iconica Playback Template, and it appears to have solved the problem.

This time, it loaded HALion Sonic, not HALion 7 for all of the instruments, and it showed the appropriate instruments using Iconica. Very confusing why the Playback template the first time did not load this correctly.

All is solved for now. I return to here if I find more issues.

I would be surprised it worked at all since Iconica is different from Iconica Sketch and would use different expression maps.
