Is there any way writing Brazilian percussion could be made as easy as drumline notation? I’m a proffesional Brazilian percussion teacher and I would like it if dorico would include the sounds of a batucada. The sounds that are in dorico 5 are very limited. As a former Finale user; I’ve asked the same question to the makers of Finale, but with no changes in the program. I’m using a package from Native instruments right now but it’s not easy to use with dorico.
As a Brazilian percussionist (maracatu) I’d love for us to have these kind of samples too. However, producing sample libraries is expensive and the demand has to be large enough to be commercially viable. I think it’s really hard to find sample libraries with batucada instrument samples. Mostly the libraries just have loops rather than individual instruments. If there was a real demand then there would be more libraries.
It should be possible to use the samples more easily in Dorico if you have playback templates and percussion kits set up. It should be similar to how John Barron’s Drumline examples are set up (see the Discover Dorico sessions on youtube)
Dear Paul, I use the alfaia sound that is in Dorico and that sounds pretty good. At least I can write for my maracatu group (Mata Cabra) and let them hear what I have in mind (Although it’s still limited since I would like to use sounds like the rim of an alfaia etc.) For the batucada pieces that I write, I use Brazilian percusion sounds from Native instruments. Not perfect and not easy top intergrate into Dorico, but I got it working.
