Breve notations

Hi.
I request that there should be options for the notation of the breve (double whole note), as that note duration has three different forms:

  • breve w/ two lines on either side
  • breve in mensural notation
  • breve w/ one line on either side

I believe these options would be a wonderful addition for Dorico and I recommend that these options should be added soon. And so can anyone please add these options to Dorico?

Dorico already has options to choose between “rectangular” breves and “round” breves with wings in Engraving Options > Notes.

Bravura (and other SMuFL fonts) contain single-wing breves.

You can change the glyph used for breves by editing or creating a new Notehead set.

This is one case where I wish we had an option to select the single winged version, just like we can choose between the double and square. I wish we didn’t have to edit notehead sets to access this very commonly used glyph.

Agree with Romanos. The single-wing double whole note is very common in liturgical chant. Yes, the notehead set route is an option, but it is not easy.

Liturgical chant is my use case, too, and some major us publishers use it as default.

To make it a little easier, you can change the default set one time, and save as default for future projects.
