Broadway Lites Expression Map

After many years of not using Broadway Lites I have the 2.0 upgrade and even an Expression Map from Steinberg. But this is what I get …

Seems not to be finding Kontakt, I can run it independently (Kontakt that is) and see Lites in there so that’s not the problem. Hitting the Steinberg ‘e’ button doesn’t do anything, so it seems to be confused about Kontakt. However it does show up as an option …

Here you see BL loading fine under Kontakt, next to the failed other instruments

It might be looking for the wrong version of Kontakt.

Hmm, wha’ts the right version? I have 6.6.0 … ok wait - thanks that’s the clue, from the docs it wants Kontakt 7 and BL 2.2, I’ve got 2.0

What jerks! They want $4.95 to update from 2.0 to 2.2, that is seriously stupid. Makes me not want to upgrade to the full library too …

OK that worked, seemed to be more the wrong version of Broadway Lites.

Fun to be finally using this library! I got it on sale without realizing how incompatible it was with everything, but now finally usable in Dorico.

For anybody interesting in Broadway Lites - sounds great for punchy stuff, but I’ve got a choral brass section in here too and it sounds terrible, ugh … need to see if I can use two VST’s for one instrument.

Use different voices and use independent voice playback

Thanks, I did think of that but wondered if its too hacky, and come to think of it I remember that now.

Something I don’t know is what about Playback templates? Presumably you should just use a relatively generic one, then tweak this instrument to taste with the voice stuff.

I’ve got the original Broadway Big Band Package… Does anytime know if this expression map will work for it?

There’s a map for the full library, do a search
